Thoughout the ages
Bells have long since been used
For a variety of purposes.
In some ancient or primitive cultures
Bell were used to frighten away evil spirits and
As a form of communication, or just enjoyment.
Bells were eaily made or obtained,
And very simple to learn how to use.
The tradition of using bells during these times
Was carried over into the celebration of Christmas.
Many villages had a church, and most churches had a bell.
When something important was happening
The church would ring the bell.
The ringing of the bell would also spread news of a joyous celebration.
Most people can remember having at one time heard said
"Every time a bell rings, an angel gets his wings".
It was also heard in the movie, It's a Wonderful Life.
The movie featured James stewart in the leading role.
Bells were inexpensive musical instruments,
Many people would take them while Christmas caroling or wassailing.
Many images of Santa's reindeer depict bells draped over the reindeer for decoration.
Bells have always had a place in Christmas songs.
The famous Christmas hymn "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day"
Began as a poem written by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow in the 1860's.
The poem was actually about the tragedy one felt during the Civil War.
Christmas bells are remembered in such classic holiday songs;
"Jingle Bells", "Carol of the Bells," "Silver Bells", and "Christmas Bells are Ringing".
